18th April 2008 Recently stayed at the James Cook and loved it. The rooms were beautiful, well serviced everyday and were very large. Food was excellent. would recommend the hotel to anyone. only downside was that the hotel did not have a swimming pool but other than that it is a great place to stay.
Enjoy stylish ambiance and sophisticated amenities " including two restaurants and bars, the tranquil Bodyhaven Spa Style Boutique and a modern fitness room. For corporate guests, high-speed Internet connectivity is available throughout the hotel, and our exclusive 26th floor Club Lounge affords the pinnacle of executive comfort with complimentary full buffet breakfasts, evening bar service and a business centre with spectacular harbour views.
Conveniently located in the heart of Wellington, minutes from landmark attractions and fashionable shopping and nightlife, we look forward to welcoming you to New Zealand's thriving capital city.
1st May 2009 Flew into Wgtn yesterday evening & checked into the James Cook Hotel (which was highly recommended by a colleaque who found this gem through Finda or was it UBD on one of his business trips). What a contrast, dull and wet outside but warm, cozy and inviting once you step through the doors. I always believe that the hotel foyer/lobby makes a hotel and this is exactly the case here. It was well decor'ed and wonderful ambience. Checking-in was prompt and we were well received.
As for our room, just the standard room, was pleasingly very well presented and bigger than we anticipated.
Diner at the hotels Whitby's Restaurant was also top class, the buffet and ala carte presented options not normally available in top hotels. Of-course I had the buffet and the better half went for something with a bit more taste.
Went to the movies tonite and on returning spent half an hour or so in the Sojourn Bar (in the lobby), just a few quite ales and people watching. This little bar/cafe is a happening place. Not bad at all.
As for the bed, well she's fast asleep, that means it very comfortable otherwise I would be hearing differently.
Thought I'd just key-in a few words while watching movie on tv.
Pleasant Dreams.
