Welcome to Auckland Kindergarten, where children learn through play!
Our kindergartens provide a safe, nurturing and enriching learning environment for children, our future leaders.
The education we provide supports and encourages children to become competent and confident learners.
All teaching staff are qualified in early childhood education:
They hold a current teacher registration and first aid certificates. We believe a partnership between children, teachers, family/whanau and the community is fundamental to a positive quality learning environment.
Established in 1908, the Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) is a charitable trust made up of 107 kindergartens and four early learning centers across the greater Auckland region. We also provide four free Playgroups around Auckland.
The AKA (Auckland Kindergarten Association) was established over 100 years ago to provide quality early childhood education to the children of Auckland that is accessible, secular, non-discriminatory, and inclusive of the diversity of the children and families/whanau that attend. This philosophy still continues today.
We encourage children to participate in a wide range of learning activities to extend and develop their skills and knowledge. The learning experiences include exploration, creativity, literacy and numeracy, independence and confidence. It also includes working together, sharing and social interactions.
The dedicated teaching teams regularly document children's work incorporating digital photographs into stories, which provide a snap shot of their learning. All kindergartens also use Storypark which is an online portfolio system.
These assessments, which are recorded in individual portfolios, highlight their strengths, interests and learning dispositions. On a daily basis approximately 9,000 children are accessing our kindergartens, from South Auckland through to Wellsford.
The AKA (Auckland Kindergarten) offers two types of kindergarten services;
Kindergarten Day Model:
A 'kindergarten day' kindergarten offers full day sessions (either six or six and a half hours), and in some kindergartens a shorter session (three or four hours) is also offered. You have the flexibility to choose the hours and days your child attends.
Kindergarten Sessions :
Children attending Sessions at the Kindergarten start in the afternoon, attending three sessions per week, and transition through to five mornings sessions per week, in age appropriate order. The sessions are generally three hours
The number of sessions and hours varies from kindergarten to kindergarten.
