The food is okay but overpriced , ingredients aren't very good quality . Last time I was there the lady at the counter was impatient and was looking down to us sourly and made us feel very uncomfortable . When we sat down for Yum Char only once did a plate of food come our way and it was often the same thing and we often saw carts and plates of food serve others and ignored us. When we had finished our pot of tea we actually had to alert a member of staff who took ages to get back to us with tea. We were very disappointed as we used to bring large parties to this restaurant.

Seems Im not the only one to get stiffed by the Voucher Deal for China Yum Char. Lesson learnt. Generally like coming here but unimpressed with how they handled their promotion.

My partner and I have recently scored a deal on Groupy - $20 for $40 worth of voucher to use at China Yum Char Restaurant & Bar However on payment we were advised the manager of the business has decided that only 1 voucher can be used between myself and my partner. I pointed to them that the fine print clearly states "Maximum of 3 vouchers per table, use one per person." so this means myself and my partner were entitled to use 2 vouchers between us. The manager as well as the staff on duty at the front desk (Dory and Maggie) were rude and refused to honor the second voucher. They said they have recently changed their Policy on vouchers. When I demanded to view the 'Policy' in question I was told that it's a 'Verbal' policy and they were unable to show me the so called policy in writing. I find this highly unacceptable especially for a business whose primary purpose to advertise on Groupy is to elevate their profile and to attract new customer which in this case have failed miserably. However food was good though but customer service is appalling! P/s: Even their web site is broken - www.china-yumchar.co.nz redirects to a placeholder site

We came here on a daily deal voucher. The food was quite nice and reasonably priced. Parking is tricky and at $4 per hour is a bit of a rip off.

Food is ok, poor service and terrible customer service. We bought voucher off daily deal site where it said Parking available did not say we have to pay $4/hour for parking!!! This is second time I'm writing this review, not sure what happened with the one I wrote on Saturday. I don't think I would go again to this place as the staff possibly (Manager) was very very rude.

We've been here twice for yum cha with friends who go quite regularly and know what to order - have found it delicious both times, and have had plenty to eat for a reasonable price (it was $67 for four of us last Sunday). It seems like the food options come in a flurry (maybe on the half hour) and then slows down a bit, which worked fine for us. I'm not sure if we went without our friends that the staff would be able to explain what each dish is, but we haven't put that to the test yet. Lots of delicious steamed and deep fried treats to sample. The ice cream balls are AMAZING! They are very busy and don't like you to sit around at your table drinking tea once you have finished - or at least they didn't last time we went, we were given the hurry up once we stopped eating, but that's the kind of place it is, so we didn't mind. We'll definitely be back for more.

We were recommended to dine here. We found it quite disappointing really because we tried to ask staff questions about what was inside some of the food but to they couldn't understand us, we were simply told 'you try' 'you try'. Experiencing new taste is one thing but you at least want to know what's inside a dish. The food we found ok after 'trying' but again if they could have told us what was in other dishes we may have tried them.

Yum Char is so good, and its great at China. We consistently find our way down the bottom of town for a Yum Char session. With attentive staff, nice open space, it is our preferred Yum Char restaurant.

Love this place! Very good yum cha selection. Extremely busy...but that's what adds to the experience. BBQ pork buns and steamed dumplings are my favourite here. When you have a group it works out to be very cheap!

Very authentic and delicious yum cha in stylish surroundings. Try the long prawn spring rolls served in a tall glass with sweet chilli dipping sauce. The ice cream balls for dessert have to be tried to be believed. Perfect for two or a large group on a big table with a lazy susan to spin the food around!
