As the chef at the Post Restaurant I do not recall the vegetarian dish ever having chicken served with it. Or getting questioned by the front of house regarding it. I find these comments to be untrue and false.

4th February 2011 I found The Post to have average food at fine dining prices. It was very poor value for money. The service is hit or miss. I have been on an occassion where the waitress was lovely and very friendly and attentive, but on another occassion both the waitress and waiter there seemed to have no idea how to do the job right. One of our party requested they make slight adjustments to a dish for a dietary requirement. They did not check back to see if they would be happy with what they could change it to. They added chicken to an initially vegetarian dish, so it had to be sent back.
The manager was present but his staff clearly needed some extra direction which he was not giving.
I would not return. There are other good quality eateries in the village which offer outstanding service and value for money.

11th September 2010 You know you're stepping inside the Havelock of old when you visit this place. Once the old Havelock North Post Office that dominated the Napier Road-Havelock Road corner, it has been rotated and moved one door down Havelock Road. It is now quaint and the 1930s weatherboard isn't as noticeable as the Spanish Mission terracotta rooftiles. Well appointed and considerate refit.
Guests won't be surprised to find a blend of fine cuisine with the sense of good home cooking - the way food is meant to be cooked. Nothing ostentacious here, you get what you expect as the menus are well put together offering a good variety with accurate and seductive descriptions. This is the Hawke's Bay as it should be - the Fruitbowl of New Zealand before it went all Wino Country.
