26th January 2012 The menu is outstanding - something to appeal to all tastes, and I have been tempted to try dishes that I normally might have been reluctant to risk, just because I trust everything to be lovely. The service is impecable (just the right mix of attentiveness and privacy) and the atmosphere is lovely. The wine list is also extensive with a large number available by the glass (not to mention the list of whiskeys by the glass), This is our 'go-to' restaurant when everything needs to be perfect.

6th August 2011 OMG - great service, great food. Travelling with my adult daughter who is vegetarian, we had been struggling all week through the south to find eateries which offered vegetarian meals. Most had only concoctions which were combinations of mashed potato cheese (sometimes feta sometimes cheddar) and spinach, so on finding the menu for Scotia online and seeing a much more appealing vegetarian option off we went. We arrived without a reservation (woops) and feeling extremely under-dressed, but were shown to a table and enjoyed a lovely meal with very attentive staff who were extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We will go back again next time we are in Dunedin.

30th May 2011 We had a late reservation to Scotia and we were warmly welcomed as we entered and shown to a table. The table was in a small, semi-private area which was very nice, unfortunately it was directly next to the toilets, which brought an influx of people directly past our table.
The servers were friendly and although they fumbled over the wine list to find the wine i ordered, they were pleasant to deal with. However, as the night went on, we had a change of servers, without any introduction and eventually forgotten as we had to request deserts from a person who appeared to be the bus boy. Having said that, all the people (four total) that dealt with our table were pleasant.
for starters, i had the gravalax salmon which was beautiful in every way, while my partner had the haggis which was hearty and good; I thought the haggis was a bit to heavy and rich for a starter/entree, but my partner loved it.
For mains, I had the smoked steak with mushroom ragu. It was, with out exaggeration, the best meal I've eaten in this country (been here for 3 years). My Partner had a confit of rabbit, which was also excellent. We had dessert that evening, which was beautifully presented and a pleasure to eat. But the French wine must have gone to my head, because I can't recall what the dessert was (perhaps a cheesecake?). Although we were annoyed by the change in servers and the constant passing of other patrons by our table as they used the toilets, the experience was excellent.
