Robinson Seismic Ltd specialises in earthquake protection technology for structures.
We research, develop and design, test and manufacture seismic protection and damping devices. RSL is best known for inventing the Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) "a seismic isolation device that protects some of our best known buildings such as Parliament Buildings, Te Papa" Museum of NZ, Supreme Court & Wellington Hospital. Internationally the San Francisco City Hall & the University Hospital in Los Angeles are amongst thousands of buildings & bridges protected by this Wellington invention.
Seismic isolation is a technology that protects the structure from the destructive effects of an earthquake. It decouples the structure from the ground and provides damping of the earthquake forces. Isolated structures have demonstrated excellent performance during and after major earthquakes with the structure remaining fully operational and its contents preserved and of course peoples' lives protected.
Much of our work is undertaken overseas in countries such as India; Turkey; the Middle East; Taiwan; Korea; Armenia and the USA.
RSL was awarded the winner of the Discovering Gold category in 2007 Wellington Gold Business Awards. This award recognises technological, scientific and innovative research and development projects. In particular the award recognised the significance of the RoGlider our innovative seismic isolation product suitable for lighter weight structures. The first commercial application of this product is at the new Whanganui Hospital (NZ).
