Our gold mine was in use from 1866-1914 and produced an estimated 4,000,000 ounces of gold. It is located 22km south of Westport and 83km north of Greymouth. We have rebuilt a stamping battery on the site of the original workings, where over 300 stampers had worked. Now you can step back to that exciting era, and explore the tunnels, see the mighty water wheel and the stamping battery. We are also the home of Manuka Cottage which produces Manuka Oil (Leptospermun Scoparium) which is widely known for its antifungal and antibacterial uses.
