Lyttelton Port of Christchurch is the major deep-water port in the South Island and a world class supplier of port services. Located just 12km from Christchurch city, the largest city in the South Island, Lyttelton is at the hub of international trade and plays a vital role in the global transport network.
The port prides itself on catering for a diverse range of trades and offers a full array of shipping services to exporters and importers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
CONTAINER SERVICES
The container terminal in Lyttelton provides specialised cargo handling and stevedoring services for containers and plant hire. Just 6km form the port is the container depot, CityDepot, which provides container storage, repair washing and repair.
MARINE SERVICES
On the water full marine services are provided including the provision of tugs, pilots to escort ships into and out of the port, staff to assist with ships' lines when ships are berthing and security.
COAL SERVICES
The coal facility is the largest in New Zealand and over two million tonne is exported each year. Coal is received from the West Coast, aggregated in the coal yard then loaded onto vessels by port staff.
OTHER PORT SERVICES
Within the inner harbour there is a dedicated terminal for handling, processing and storing motor vehicles. Facilities for loading and unloading bulk products such as petroleum, fertiliser, gypsum, cement, logs, conventional break-bulk and fishing are also provided.
Today the company employs over 400 staff in operational, management and administration roles. The port is currently listed on the NZ Stock Exchange and has approximately 1,700 shareholders with the majority of shares owned by Christchurch City Holdings Limited.
