On October 1st, 1998, Earthworks Marlborough Ltd became the new name for Clifford Land Developments Ltd, which was established in 1976 and was principally involved in agricultural contracting and farm development, initially with two bulldozers. Following the downturn in New Zealand's primary industry, the company took its first steps into the competitive contracting industry in the early 1980s carrying out local body work such as road construction including blasting, road alignment and widening, river protection and containment works. Further expansion took the company onto larger contracts and a more diversified client base which now includes:
Small to large scale dam construction
Quarrying
Vineyard development
Large contouring/leveling projects
Major local contracts for earthworks and blasting
Sub-division construction
Road construction
Pipeline construction
