22nd March 2011 Having been at Womad 2011 for 3 glorious days, I was sad to have to leave for my return to Waiheke Island. With a four and a half hour journey ahead and a speedy pack up departure i was dying for a coffee before heading into the Gorge and Reserve area of the trip.
Low and behold, as i came round the corner in Mokau I saw a welcoming sign saying River Run Cafe. For being in the middle of nowhere, it was such a busy little place with lovely warm smiles when walking through the door. As i peered into the food cabinets i was spoilt for choice by food that was so fresh and obviously homemade on sight. It all looked so scrumptous it was hard to make up my mind as to what to have.
In the end i decided on a mixed berry muffin and a flat white, Oh Boy!!! Both were so good... the coffee had a lovely aroma and such a smooth taste and as for the muffin, it was so light but packed with fruit and so beautifully decorated with raspberries, butter icing and seeds. A muffin that was moist and tasty in fact, the best that i have had since i've been in NZ.
The staff were were friendly and helpful and could't have been kinder. I hight reccommend this place to anyone that is passing. It is deffinately worth stopping at.
River Run Cafe is the perfect place to stop for a breather on your way to or from New Plymouth - Auckland. Great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as on the road baked snacks for the entire family.
30th March 2015 I have never ever met with such bad manners. I ordered a coffee and it was clearly burnt. I returned the coffee and asked them to make it again and they refused and tipped some of it out to test the coffee. No refund no replacement coffee. Seldom complain at anything but this was a disgusting coffee but worst still was the rudeness of the owners. I will never shop there again, and I will also encourage others to avoid this establishment.

29th November 2010 This is a place we always stop a at when travcellin g North from New Plymouth. Why because the fish is always fresh and the service is great. It has a community feel about it, in other words you are not just a customer but treated like a local. If travelling to Auckland this is our stop for lunch and when travelling back we look forward to stooping for dinner. The food is great for anytime of the day.
