16th July 2013 My partner and I called into the Rangiriri Tavern at 7.45pm on a Monday evening after a long drive from the Hokianga on our way home. We ordered dinner. I ordered scallops and my partner lamb shanks. The place was almost empty. The woman taking the order checked that lamb shanks were still available and the girl cooking said they were. We had a wine and waited and waited. Tables were cleared around us. We ordered another drink and waited and waited even longer! Staff were tidying up. We were well in view of the staff. Customers left and we were the only people there. The staff started eating food in the bar and walking around with a large salad making jokes about it. I asked how long it was going to be till our dinner. By this time it was 8.50pm. We were very hungry and still had an hour and a half drive home! The woman who took our order asked the kitchen girl and she looked surprised. They hadn't even started to cook it! There was a murmur about the till not printing the docket. I was very unhappy as you can imagine and asked for a refund. I also told her we had come a long way and suggested that in good faith they refund the cost of our drinks as we had been waiting for over an hour. But that wasn't an option. There was no apology just a cash refund for the dinner we didn't even get. Don't bother ever going to the Rangiriri Tavern!
