15th July 2016 Excellent, tasty, delicious food and great friendly service. Did feel that more meat and less vegetable could be a better option in the curry dishes.
Experience the unique tastes of Lao and Thai cuisine. The fragrant flavours of South-East Asia are fused in a well thought out menu, designed to thrill taste buds.
No other Thai restaurant in the bay can boast such stunning harbour views. The floor to ceiling windows accommodate the fresh decor and sophisticated atmosphere.
Enjoy a glass of wine in the outside dining area on a summer evening with the beautiful waterfront surroundings. The wait staff deliver warm and helpful service even on a busy Friday night.
Cafe' de Laos - Better value, better location, amazing experience.

13th February 2012 Dined at Cafe De Laos about 2 weeks ago. The food didn't lift up to my standard, despite the fact that the place was packed. Front of staffs were lovely but it is obvious that the restaurant is understaff as I had to walk up to the counter several times in order to get staff's attention.
Mixed of appetizers was lovely but it stopped right there. I had fish and it was too salty and not what it appeared on the menu. My partner and his colleague had stir fry Beef with peanut sauce and Chicken Yellow curry. The curry was way too sweet and too diluted. There wasn't a lot of meat on the stir fry hot plate but heaps of vegetable. The portion is in a good size but the taste is definitely not authentic. As I am a Thai descent and have tried several Thai restaurants in Hawkes Bay.
My partner visited the restaurant again for work dinner and he disappointed his salmon dish and decided not to go back there again. Maybe we ordered the wrong things so best to give the establishment benefit of the doubt as they have a wide selection on the menu. The price is relatively high for a small restaurant.
Cosy ambience and lovely staffs.
