12th January 2009 This is a negative review.
I bought a Toyota Starlet, 1996 model from Speedy 5000 Limited. Since then the following has happened:
Twice I have returned the car because the fan belt squeaks, twice Speedy5000 have told me they fixed it and the squeak has started again – it is not fixed
The tail lights do not work – the fuse blew, I went to a garage and got a new fuse to fix it, the new fuse also blew – the car is navy blue so at night it is very hard for other drivers to see
The sidelights have stopped working
The dashboard has stopped lighting up – I have no idea how fast I’m going at night time, or whether I have petrol or if the car is overheating… the dashboard lights seem to be connected to the tail lights because when the tail lights went out the dashboard went out too
The driver’s door handle is coming loose, I think it is going to drop off – the rain shield on the back right door dropped off
One of the tyres at the front was bald, it blew and I had to get it replaced, when I tried to use the spare tyre in the back it was the wrong size – to repeat, the spare tyre does not fit the car, I had to call out Firestone over the Christmas holiday, also there was no wheel nut socket so I could not lift up the car onto the jack and could not undo the nuts on the blown out tyre
The battery terminals are corroded and the car does not start every time
The lock on the front passenger side does not work with the car key
The stereo is glue gunned in and the CD player doesn’t work
Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, this car cannot be of “acceptable quality”, as it is not “fit for the purpose” it is made for, it is not “safe”, it has demonstrated that it is not “durable”, and it does have “minor defects”.
I have contacted Speedy 5000 asking for a refund, they have offered to repair the car again, though I am already weary and frustrated by their assurance and failure to repair the fan belt the last two times. The staff I have spoken to have all been polite, hence one star.
Although they are fulfilling their legal obligations by offering to repair the car, I am disappointed, frustrated and would much rather have the money back.
I, personally, wish I had not traded with them.
