New Zealand Schools Choral Festival is an annual singfest for high school choirs occurring in the week spanning July and August to which choirs from other countries are invited. Each choir's performance will be adjudicated; a five minute workshop will follow immediately and written feedback subsequently. Each choir's competitive achievement will be acknowledged.
Convenor of the adjudication panel is Auckland University's Professor Karen Grylls, Festival Director is Owen Sharpe and Musical Director is David Hamilton. Faye Dumont, the founding president of the Australian Choral Association has agreed to come across to join our adjudication panel.
The choral festival allows New Zealand school choirs to be able to participate with choirs especially from the northern hemisphere without having to travel to northern hemisphere festivals. It allows to Northern Hemisphere choirs to stay with and sing with New Zealand choirs and experience variegated New Zealand choral music.
Choirs that come to New Zealand have tourism opportunities here including a week long tour of the South Island snow country with other visiting choirs which includes opportunities to sing.
