Gary Shepherd and Errol Kime established the business in 1964, and have seen many changes in the industry

When they set up in business, very few parts were replaced. Virtually everything was repaired. Old company records show how roll-overs were once repaired with a new windscreen and a single moulding - and lots of labour.

Nowadays, efficiencies in the car parts industry mean that many parts can be replaced, but Shepherd & Kime Ltd takes pride in preserving and using the skills acquired through a lifetime of paying attention to detail.

Shepherd & Kime Ltd can carry out many mechanical procedures on site, and have the latest equipment for chassis straightening and alignment. They have a network of specialists for collision-related mechanical work and upholstery repairs.

The industry has also seen many advances in spray-painting systems. Down-draft painting booths have become the norm, and new paint formulations provide better results than ever before.

In 1998 Shepherd & Kime Ltd ran out of room at the Tuam Street workshop and established a second site in Antigua Street, next to the railway lines. The two branches now employ 45 staff. The manager of the Antigua Street branch, Dave Kennedy, aims to provide the same personalised service that Gary and Errol have made such an important part of their business.

Each vehicle is returned to its owner in as close to the original condition as possible. "We want to make the process as straight-forward as we can for all of our customers," says Gary. "The key is to work alongside the owner so that they know what is involved in the repair process and are kept informed of progress."
