Upton Architects is a small architectural practice experienced in a mix of residential, education and light commercial building design. We undertake both new buildings and alterations /additions to existing buildings. We offer a comprehensive range of architectural services including feasibility studies, concept design, working drawings, tendering and construction management.
Graham Upton is the principal architect and is directly involved at all phases of a project from initial briefing through design and contract administration, ensuring attentive and personal service.
The Design Process
We take into account the following when designing for your building project:
* Physical and functional requirements
* Your ideas, lifestyle, likes/dislikes
* Hopes and expectations; styles you like
* Budget
* Timeframe
Design is executed in the following stages:
1. Sketch Design
2. Developed Design
3. Working Drawings (Contract Documentation)
4. Contract Administration
The Construction Process
We assist you in choosing building contractors, obtaining competitive pricing and formalising a building contract. We then "observe" construction and administer the contract carrying out various functions.
In short, we act as your agent in dealing with the building contractor to minimise the risk and hassle for you. Through involvement at construction phase we also ensure that the finished building remains true to the design concept.
The office is located at Graham's home-based studio in Epsom. Staff numbers vary up to a maximum of 2 persons plus the principal giving the practice the ability to handle projects up to around $4.0 million in value.
Upton Architects are members of the New Zealand institute of Architects and registered in New Zealand.
For some clients, such as schools, we offer "pre-design" services such as feasibility studies and site development planning (master plans).
